Wintering in my garden
I’m an admirer of Piet Oudolf’s gardens. They look like art to me. Landscape paintings created with plants. His philosophy of embracing the “gloomy” beauty in the winter silhouettes…has transformed how I see my garden. It’s the idea of seeing beauty in the dry, drab, and dead.
I like to call it “winterest.”
I’ve been out in my garden more than ever this winter.
It’s warm. It’s too warm for February. This morning, I overheard two moms talking about how they don’t know what to say to their kids who keep asking to go sledding!
It feels slightly socially awkward to admit to missing snow. Even as I watch spring bulbs pop up earlier than ever I’m still hoping we might get a coating…March is known for surprises.
Hope you enjoyed some snaps of the low light in my garden…it’s very much a work in progress but gives me endless inspiration for my art!
ps… Piet Oudolf planted a meadow garden at the new Delaware Botanic Gardens. I haven’t been yet but it’s on my bucket list for next year!
