Work on Paper: Way Finder

Pin-talisim…work on paper blending with photography

“Way Finder” is a pin-talisim work on paper that recently was included in an online exhibit at the Ida Herma Museum of Art Foundation.

Way Finding

As I write this I’m feeling that the title “Way Finder” is exactly what I’m endeavoring to do with these “work on paper” explorations. Below is a digital art piece I created using “Way Finder” and a photograph I took of the maple tree canopy on my in-law's family land.

I’ve been exploring more about what can be created by blending these works on paper digitally with photography. I’ve actually gotten a handle on Lightroom but working in Photoshop often leads to curses! The files on my desktop are as messy as the paints on my studio floor…so I’m thinking I might need to sharpen up my organization skills if I keep going in this digital direction.

I’m about a million miles from where I feel this work could go…but also intrigued by the idea of combining the pin-talism with photography. I’m very curious to see where this blending of the seen world with the energetic world might eventually go.

Standing under shimmering leaves as the dabbled light dances above has something in common with the many tiny points of light in the pin-talism work. It’s that same swirling light energy if you know what I mean!

I know some of you have expressed interest in purchasing a pin-talism piece…I’ll definitely have more to come with this work on paper in the future. This is a new direction and a new body of work. Art takes the time it takes and there is still a lot bubbling up with this! Thank you soooo much for following along!

Over the summer, I created another digital artwork using photography and abstract drawings I made on black paper. Read here>> Work on paper: Dark Illuminations

conceived out of nowhere but in this place beginning to lead everywhere
— David Whyte
Sometimes
if you move carefully
through the forest,
breathing
like the ones
in the old stories,
who could cross
a shimmering bed of leaves
without a sound,
you come to a place
whose only task
is to trouble you
with tiny
but frightening requests,
conceived out of nowhere
but in this place
beginning to lead everywhere.
Requests to stop what
you are doing right now,
and
to stop what you
are becoming
while you do it,
question
that can make
or unmake
a life,
questions
that have patiently
waited for you,
questions
that have no right
to go away.
— David Whyte

ps…wanted to share this poem that I came across on The Marginalian. You can hear David Whyte read his beautiful poem there and give his thoughts. I really like the line “conceived out of nowhere but in this place beginning to lead everywhere”
