Collabery Art Gallery is a Pop Up art space in downtown Phoenixville celebrating local creatives. I like to think of it as a “secret gem” hidden below a historic building. It’s actually super easy to find behind Paloma’s restaurant.

This year I’m sharing a mini Lacuna piece with copper detailing on the frame. It’s called “Ripple” and it can be hung on a wall or viewed from both sides…as it plays with the light.

Dark Illuminations

I’ve used the magic of Photoshop & Lightroom to blend these dark Illumination drawings into digital atmospheres.

To me, they are sort of strange bits of visual poetry. Some way of meshing the imagination into an actual moment.

I’m hoping they are more than the sum of their parts…if you know what I mean?

Lacuna: copper alchemy

This time around, I figured out how to make the “elusive blue” stain I was going for. I gave up looking for copper scraps and just went to Lowes and got some pipe fittings.

Oh! the blue was beautiful…but almost disappeared when it dried on the paper. Although, it does seem to deepen after I add wax to the paper!

Wintering

I’m an admirer of Piet Oudolf’s gardens. They look like art to me. Landscape paintings created with plants. His philosophy of embracing the “gloomy” beauty in the winter silhouettes…has transformed how I see my garden. It’s the idea of seeing beauty in the dry, drab, and dead.

I like to call it “winterest.”

Last summer, I came across this amazing hot press black watercolor paper. My first idea was to use it for pin-talism pieces but that was a complete fail. It’s a softer cotton paper and just can’t take the pressure of pin punching!
