Have you’ve been thinking of transforming your nest this spring?
We’ve all spent so much time at home this year. Trying to find sanctuary from stress in our shelters. Shifting spaces around to make room for working at home and creating classrooms out of corners. Maybe rearranging things to create pockets of privacy.
We’ve settled into the new normal. Lots of time to look around our homes and dream up new ways to make it feel more expansive and enchanted.
These spaces are fancy! I used the ArtRoom App. They feel a little staged and don’t have that loved & lived in look that makes a home truly a nest.
Honestly, we all know nobody really lives like this! But…it’s still super fun to see the magic of a room transformed by art.
Enjoy a daydream excursion and imagine your own books and mementos along with the art:)
The best advice I know about collecting art for your home is…
Look for a piece that goes with your soul. Don’t look for a piece that is matchy-matchy with your walls. An artwork that makes you feel intrigued will always find a place. Your art will go wherever you go. Believe it or not it’s actually easier to repaint walls than to discover a piece of art that is as unique as you.
Living room spaces are often where people start their art collections. They are wonderful for creating atmosphere and sharing your love of creativity with friends and family.
Quiet spaces like bedrooms are sometimes overlooked for original art.
They are actually one of my personal favorite places for art. Having a piece of beauty to contemplate when you retreat to your sanctuary is a deep dive into calm.
I once visited a collector’s home and she shared a tour of all her art. I was struck that she had a piece she purchased long ago as a teenager hanging in her bedroom. It was fascinating to see one of the first pieces in her wide ranging collection. She still loved waking up to it many years later. I remember walking through feeling what a wonderful way to keep connection to your younger self.
I want to share a few things that I‘ve noticed about my best art collectors over the years.
They are usually thinking way beyond just decorating or style.
They have a unique inner vision for how they want to really feel in a space. Often they say “I just buy what I love!” Over time what they love becomes a reflection of themselves in their home…not a mirror of the latest trends. Their art collection becomes a history of their special anniversaries and milestone markers for times of deep meaning or change.
They are thoughtful and take their time absorbing work but when something really calls to them they are bold and just go for it.
They just know…I understand that completely because it’s how I feel when I make art.
