The Signs of the Sea paintings are inspired by seaweed I saw while walking on the beach in Point Reyes, CA in 2017.
I’m intrigued by the idea of oceans as places that have mystery below the surface. The beautiful seaweed on the beach felt like a hint of lush life washed ashore from a deep ocean garden.
I often think of deep water places as a metaphor for the subconscious self.
The paintings that emerged are not simple representations of seaweed. They are abstract connections to a tangible ocean. As well as, imaginings of the mystery below our own conscious self.
I invite you as the viewer to let your own imagination spark connections in the work.
